Summer English Courses for Adults

OUR CAMBRIDGE SUMMER SCHOOL WILL NOT RUN IN 2023 

- WHY NOT JOIN US FOR PRIVATE LESSONS, IN PERSON OR ONLINE?

With our full-time summer adult English classes you study in the mornings, 09.20-12.35, with a 15-minute break.

Each morning is divided into two sessions (09:20-10:50 and 11:05-12:35):

• In the first session, your teacher works with you from a set course book which provides the framework of your course. A wide range of additional materials add to the course book to make the lessons engaging and relevant.
• After break, the lessons are more flexible, but are often linked to the first session including learning extensions, side topics, whilst allowing plenty of opportunity for pronunciation, speaking and listening practice.

You will work on all skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening, with special focus on speaking. In our small groups, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discuss things with your teacher and classmates.

At EngXcel we can help you prepare for Cambridge Assessment English Examinations, including B2 First and C1 Advanced.  

We ask all students on our English courses to take our pre-course assessment test before we can confirm the offer of a place - contact us to request a free online test. 

Optional Extras

For a more intensive course, you can combine the morning group sessions with afternoon private lessons by taking one of our 5 Mornings Plus options. 

These private afternoon lessons are tailored to your specific needs and goals, making them perfect if you have a specific goal in mind, such as an exam or you need English for work, or you just want to progress as quickly as possible. Working 1:1 with your teacher, you can concentrate on the skills you need and the topics you're interested in. 

We'll ask you to complete a questionnaire before your course so that we can pair you with the right teacher for your needs and so they can start tailoring your course. During your first lesson, you'll get to know your teacher and start working towards your goal, as well as having a needs analysis with your teacher. This needs analysis helps give them a really detailed view of your current English ability and the areas you need to work on, as well as what you want to get from the course, allowing them to tailor your course even further.

There are four 5 Morning Plus options to choose from:

• 5 Mornings Plus 4 - morning group lessons combined with 4 private afternoon lessons (3 hours, taken as 2 afternoons of 1.5 hours)
• 5 Mornings Plus 6 - morning group lessons combined with 6 private afternoon lessons (4.5 hours, taken as 3 afternoons of 1.5 hours)
• 5 Mornings Plus 8 - morning group lessons combined with 8 private afternoon lessons (6 hours, taken as 4 afternoons of 1.5 hours)
• 5 Mornings Plus 10 - morning group lessons combined with 10 private afternoon lessons (7.5 hours, taken as 5 afternoons of 1.5 hours)
